Rev. Msgr. John Opoku-Agyemang ordained and installed as new Bishop

Otumfuo Endorses Bishop-elect of Konongo-Mampong Catholic Diocese

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has endorsed the appointment of Rev. Msgr. John Opoku-Agyemang as the Bishop-elect of the Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong. The Vatican last week announced Rev. Msgr Opoku-Agyemang as the successor to Bishop Joseph Osei-Bonsu who retired at 76 from the pastoral care of the Diocese.

The Holy Father has accepted the retirement of Bishop Joseph Osei-Bonsu from the pastoral care of the Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong in Ghana appointed Mons. John Opoku-Agyemang as his successor.

History

The diocese of Konongo‑Mampong was created on 3 March 1995 by His Holiness Pope John Paul II.  It was carved out of two other dioceses, namely the diocese of Kumasi and the diocese of Sunyani.  About 90% of the territory of the new diocese of Konongo- Mampong belonged to the diocese of Kumasi, which was created in 1950, having existed as a Vicariate for 18 years.
