My Lord, in a few days’ time, on 22 July, the Church celebrates the Feast of Saint Mary Magdalene. I have often heard it said that she was a prostitute who repented and changed her way of life. Indeed, I have heard priests preach in this vein during Mass on her feast day. Is this actually true? Does Sacred Scripture identify Mary Magdalene as a prostitute, or is this a later tradition that has, over the centuries, come to be widely accepted as fact?

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has endorsed the appointment of Rev. Msgr. John Opoku-Agyemang as the Bishop-elect of the Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong. The Vatican last week announced Rev. My Lord, in listening to the USCCB’s reflections on the Gospel reading for Sunday, 12 July 2026 — the Parable of the Sower — a Franciscan priest, Fr Greg Friedman, remarked: “And if you hear the long form of today’s Gospel, you’ll probably hear an interpretation of the parable, probably added by the early Church and not part of Jesus’ original preaching.” How accurate is this statement? I am aware that certain biblical texts, such as Psalm 51:20–21, were appended after the destruction of the Temple in 587 BC, and that the doxology “For thine is the kingdom” was later added to the Lord’s Prayer by our Protestant brethren.
