THE WORD OF GOD, SYMBOLIZED BY AN OPENED BIBLE, A SCROLL, AND A BURNING TORCH
The word of God is the lamp for our feet, a light on our path. It is opened to be read, proclaimed and listened to, and be put into practice. Like the scroll that the Apostle John was instructed to eat, the taste can be complex. It can turn our stomachs sour as we ingest it, but in our mouths. It can taste as sweet as honey (Rev. 10:9). It is like here in so many ways if only we will allow it to work in our hearts and lives. It can purist our consciences, renew our minds, illuminate our spirits and drive away darkness as it exposes area in our lives that need to be changed. Like St. Paul (one of the patrons of the Diocese) the bishop desires to preach the word of God in and out of season
LETTERS “A” AND “M” INTERTWINED WITH A CROSS STANDING ON THEM
It is the symbol of the Blessed Mother which stands for the Latin phrase AUSPICE MARIA meaning “Under the protection of Mary”. It has the victorious Cross of the Risen Lord on top of it. From the Cross, our Blessed Lord bestowed his mother on us, and in turn, entrusted us to his mother. Like a perfect mother, Mary never stops interceding for us that we may win victories by the Cross of the Lord Jesus. Born on August 15, the solemnity of the Assumption, the bishop was entrusted to the maternal care of the Blessed Mother and has always enjoyed her maternal protection. With the Lord Jesus and the Blessed Mother on our side, who can we not conquer? What battles can we not win? What good can we not achieve?
BRETUO CHARACTERISTIC TRAITS A TRADITIONAL STOOL WITH A GYE NYAME SYMBOL AND A LEOPARD STANDING ON IT
The stood symbolizes the bishop’s seat, his pastoral and administrative authority over the diocese. The Gye Nyame symbol is undoubtedly the most popular Adinkra symbol of the Akans. It expresses the deep faith the Akans have in the Supreme Being whose involvement in even aspect of human life is paramount. It signals the necessity of God’s in the Supreme Being whose involvement in every aspect of human life paramount. It signals the necessity of God’s intervention in difficult situations which transcend the ability of man to resolve. The leopard standing on the stool is the spiritual symbol or totem of the Bretuo clan (one of the eight clans of the Akans), to which the bishop belongs. The leopard represents strength, bravery, ferocity, foresight and courage). It is very protective of its young ones. Trusting in the help of God, the bishop hopes to shepherd his diocese with these naturally God-given Bretuo characteristic traits.
MOTTO: DOMINIUS FORTITUDO MEA
Episcopal motto: Dominus Fortitudo Mea. “THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH” (Psalm 28:7). He psalmist says, unless the lord builds the house. In vain do the builders labour, unless the lord watches over the city, in vain does the watchman keep vigil (Psalm 12:1), we must always look to God’s providence in all the affair and aspects of pastoral ministry, we depend on Him for strength and acknowledge His support for all our best-laid down plans, so as to let Him crown them with success. When we use due diligence in our lawful callings, when we cast all our cares upon Him, what might seem even humanly impossible can become possible by divine grace, because He is our strength and support. The motto therefore means. If we completely trust God with everything in us, if we rely not on anything we can do by our own strength, and give all the strength we possess, both physically and mentally, to the will of God and His Spirit, the we shall not fail, Let this motto be a reminder to trust in God’s strength with all our hearts
